Glenmore University Catalog

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

Graduate students may also request credit for verifiable college-level learning acquired through nontraditional means, including:

●      Professional certifications and licensures

●      Military training (evaluated using American Council on Education [ACE] guidelines)

●      Industry training or continuing education

●      Self-directed study or employer-sponsored training programs

PLA credit is awarded through one or more of the following methods:

●      Portfolio Assessment: Students must submit a structured portfolio demonstrating how prior learning aligns with course-level learning outcomes. Portfolios are evaluated by qualified faculty assessors using standardized rubrics.

●      Standardized Exams: Credit may be granted for passing scores on CLEP, DSST, or other recognized exams.

●      Faculty or Departmental Challenge Exams: Glenmore may offer in-house assessments to validate prior knowledge, subject to program approval.

Students seeking PLA credit must complete an application through the Registrar’s Office and submit all required documentation before the midpoint of their first term of enrollment. PLA credit is noted on the transcript but does not affect GPA.

The maximum allowable PLA credit:

●      Cannot exceed 25% of the credits required for a master’s degree program

●      May not be applied to doctoral-level coursework

PLA credit may not be awarded for general life experience, unstructured learning, or non-verifiable activities.
